Swim, Baby, Swim!

Since we have two pools in our community, I've decided to 'homeschool' Fern in swimming. I grew up swimming, competitively, and leisurely at the lake every weekend. I loved it, and want Fern to have the opportunity to love it too. After a few lessons in the pool, we are going to graduate to the ocean! Here are a few pictures of her first dip.

Kick, Fern, kick!

Smiling at dad.

Thank goodness for baby hats!

She fell asleep during the two-minute walk to the pool. I thought she would get a bit of a rude awakening with the chill of the water, but it was actually quite warm. I had to wake her up after we were already in the water! Afterwards, we dried her off with a towel we often use after her nighttime bath. She started crying, wanting to nurse, just like she does after her bath. Then she went to sleep in her glider and stayed asleep for a couple of hours! She NEVER sleeps alone during the day (without being in a wrap or the baby bjorn) so she must have confused her first swim lesson with her daily bath. Fern seemed to really enjoy the pool. She was calm and comfortable and even smiled a little.

Work it.

Working the biceps.

Please, no more pull-ups, dad.

First Concert

We took Fern to the C & K concert yesterday. She loves to be out and about and she loves people watching. It was actually our second attempt at a show. We had to leave during the first attempt because it was too loud for baby ears. So we have since ordered baby ear muffs to protect fragile baby ears. We didn't need them yesterday, but keep your eyes open for some funny pictures in the future. She did get to sport her sun hat though. She used to hate having her head touched or wearing anything on her head, but she is now accustomed to it due to lots of head scrubbing in the tub. Haole island babies have to wear hats!

Passport Photo

We went to have Fern's passport photo taken this weekend. She will be a flying baby soon!

I Look Like my Pops!

I am finally convinced that Fern looks like her dad. This picture says it all. Her hooded brow has just recently become noticeable and that is one of Allen's most distinguishable features. I knew all along that she had his mouth, and a tiny part of me was hoping that she would at least get my eyes. I think every momma hopes their first child looks like them, at least a little bit...especially if they are planning on having only one child (this is of course after we know that they are healthy) . It seems only fair, since we have to carry them inside us for nine uncomfortable months and endure the pain of childbirth. At least I know that she will be beautiful!

Playdates!

Baby Fern had her second playdate with Mariana and Daniel. We met at our house for food and babywatching. Below is a picture of Anneliese with her baby Mariana.

Fern flashes a gummy smile when Daniel is lying next to her.

Mariana feels a little left out while Daniel and Fern share the same expression.

Gift Gallery

I have started a photo gallery which demonstrates Fern's sweet modeling skilz. All of the items that she is wearing (or possibly holding or chewing on in the months to come) were given to her by all of her dear family and friends. Check back occasionally to see her sporting the cute digs you have given her!

This cute little two piece has ruffles, cute little patches, a variey of prints and pink snaps up the back of the top. Another picture is below with mama.

given by Great Uncle Kenny..whoaaa...I have never said that one before. You are a 'great' uncle now, Uncle Kenny.

This is a super cute cotton jumper with ruffles and a bug on the bum! This one is still a little big, so you may see photos of it in the future. I'll put one of the front of it on here too.
given by Great Aunt Jeana and Uncle Gary

This is a cute dress onsie with tropical fruit patches on a lime green checkered print. This is a horrible picture of the outfit so maybe I'll try to find a better one and post it. Sorry, mom.

Fern is wearing an adorable onesie with matching socks from the George organic line. These have snaps down the front for easy access and they are off-center, giving it the popular kimono look. She has six of these so I hope her growth slows down a bit!

The little toy is made by Haba and is good for babes to chew on with sore gums. It is made out of beech wood and painted with a water -based non-toxic paint
